Good news on eye care but more Ops to come Howard

A trip to Wycome Hospital was needed to review the condition
of the right eye. There has been several problems with the eye since brain injury, the worst is an inability to close the eyelid. This has led to a dry eye and many, many infections including the notorious MRSA. Back in May a gold weight was inserted into the top eyelid which achieved partial closure and also complete closure when sleeping. Time and time again I’ve looked into that vulnerable bare eye but amazingly we have just been told that it’s not damaged.

The other problem is that the eye moved inwards (squint). This is somethinq that she had had surgery on in the past (before brain injury). Watching tv is ok but readinq is difficult with double vision. It is annoyinq when you are sat around with very little else to do.

Next Steps
First there will be an operation, possibly in the next month to tighten the lower eyelid.

Second there will be another operation or botox injection to sort out the squint.

Third
will be a consultation with a plastic surgeon to see if work is needed to improve her face palsy. This is a bit disconcerting because I feel there is still a lot of recovery left in her face. We have read the book A Loss of Face by Diana Farragher and she talks of how you can improve the face over years to come.
